Adil's R3 Methodology


This is NOT for IT or Software projects.. It had been inspired by Engineering Construction projects, yet would work for Operations, Logistics, etc.

Since I had made Project Management my profession; I felt deeply that there are ways to make the methodology more simple, easy and friendly.. Convenient to all sizes, purposes and industries.. 

I belong to that generation who used to get scared processing the PMP exam.. I remember how my training administrator was excited awaiting for me outside the exam room..

During the last 20 years; I had sailed through all implementations, applications and critics of all project management methodologies and disciplines.. It became a daily habit to go through essays, posts and sample questions - Thanks to the internet - where I keep refreshing my intellectual resources and understanding..

This is my simple contribution to the industry; which focuses on roles of the Project Manager rather than the Project Management itself.. It can be applied by both certified or not-certified individuals, who aim to make sense of handling and manage any endeavors.. Equally, it can work for the Management of Logistics, Operations or Products.. or any endeavor whereas People, Processing and Results are comprehensively performed..

RECORD if the first domain; containing the Baselines; which are approved and funded by the Client and the Sponsor.. These Baselines (What, Where, When, Who, and How much) are NOT changeable, unless approved again by the Client (based on his Why analysis).. The Baselines can be endless as convenient to the Client or the Project.. The more details, the less technical and contractual conflicts.. In other words; it is the Planning Stage.. and the 1st Exit of the endeavor; if proven not feasible for the "Why" context..


ENGAGEMENT is the Gate between RECORD and REPORT.. where resources are contractually engaged to deliver the project as per the Baselines.. This does not only reflects the Procurement process, but also the Audit one.. 

The Gate typically includes decommissioning of activities and commissioning of the following others..

REPORT is the second domain; managing the daily details of Executing and Sub-Delivery.. This is where most of the tasks, costs and monitors are exercised and practiced.. Also; it is usually the venue of all Audits to take place, Quality checks and Recoveries are done.. At this domain, Updates of the Baselines are processed.. Also; Monitoring progress are carefully analyzed - Simply how +/- it is against the Baselines' Parameters.. This enables to forecast the progress and potential 2nd Exit; which usually for statutory or business merits..

COMMISSIONING is the Gate symbolizing the delivery of most results of the project.. Not necessary all at once, but as per the approved delivery Schedules.. Also, this follows the authorized approval of the results by Technical Authority, Client, Civic Authority or any other as mandated in the Charter.. Project Team should start to compile all documents of design, construction or approvals to Close the Project..

REVIEW is the 3rd domain; which are about the documented compliances of the results to Baselines, Standard Specifications and Approvals.. This domain would last in Construction Industry for many months; constituting the Defect Liability Period.. DLP is to allow use of the assembled materials and equipment to exhibit any weakness or defects; which the Contractor is contractually liable to replace, correct and make good as how it was intended.. 

LESSONS LEARNED is the most intellectual product of any project; which contribute to the human legacy.. We learn from the mistakes more than from the successful achievements.. The more carefully structured the LL processes, the more beneficiary is the project to both Client and Industry.. LL are major inputs to new projects; which have similar context.. The RECORD domain will not ideally been delivered without the search and extract LL from Similar Projects..

I believe that anyone; who is Determinedly or Accidently manages a project; would follow this simple Roadmap, he will deliver the project and beat any methodology talk.. This was the aim..

You may add techniques, tools and ways to interpret every piece of it and make your reporting more solid and attractive.. However, the Clients are not sincerely enthusiastic about all reporting, but what would affect Legal, Financial, and Schedule.. Yet; any Project Manager should exhibit his efforts.. and knowledge..
