Governance. The focus is on doing the right things (programs and projects) in the right way. This involves levels of verification and validation. Governance relies on the following key items:
Strategy asks the question, “Are we doing the right things” and provides mechanisms for answering it.
Ø Is the business investing in those programmes and projects that make the greatest contribution to achieving corporate strategy?
Ø Are they correctly prioritised against each other and business-as-usual activities?
Design asks the question, “Are we planning things the right way?” and provides mechanisms for answering it.
Ø Are programs and projects:
o Aligned to each other
o Aligned with the organisations governance
o Aligned with the organisations structure
o Aligned with business-as-usual activities
Ø Are we delivering in line with enterprise architecture?
Ø Are we delivering in line with the business roadmap?
Ø Are we delivering in line with the methodology?
Ø Are we delivering in the right order/sequence?
Delivery asks the question, “Are we doing things the right way?” and provides mechanisms for answering it.
Ø Are best-practice delivery methods and governance structures in place for programmes and projects?
Ø Are those involved in delivering programmes and projects doing so consistently and performing at the required level?
Ø Do those involved in delivering programmes and projects have the skills and capability to succeed?
Ø Are appropriate tools and techniques available?
Value asks the question “Are we getting the business benefits” and provides mechanisms for answering it.
Ø Are programmes and projects delivering the expected contribution to achieving corporate strategy and looking at this on a regular basis throughout the journey?
Ø Is delivery of the strategy still on track?
