La Plata, Argentina. One of the only heavily-planned cities that is actually good (forgive me, Canberra) - because it doesn’t just look cool in plan view, it has great human-scaled streets.
Reminds me of Cerdà's utopian plan for Barcelona.
Greater legibility, walking choices in traditional amended grids like above, than in hierarchy of roads suburban model as dominates Canberra suburbs post 1970. A capable site with flat terrain, building- friendly soil profiles, with double the amount of P.O.S of La Plata would suit a new Australian city. Must be on train routes with water, suitable land for WWTP. Wxisting industry/rural base, but not on Class I, II agricultural land. Wagga has these attributes.
Belo Horizonte in Brazil is not that bad either in terms of scale
Someone liked a good straightedge
